Contribution of Christianity
“You are the light of the world” Jesus
If anything represents Christianity, it is light. Its light shines, and darkness cannot endure it. While opening the eyes of a blind man Jesus said: “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world”. And at another time He told the multitude, “You are the light of the world”. Following the footsteps of Jesus, the author of life, many have trodden the love avenue, even went to the selfless road as He did and dedicated their lives for humanity, so they can bathe the world in the light they received from Jesus. The world has never been the same since Jesus.
After Jesus, no one has ever changed the world for better like the Christian missionaries. They dashed their dreams, saved their money, collected donations from their local church and scattered across the globe. They left home “knowing they have no permanent home on this earth”. They went to the four corners of the world to teach the illiterate, to heal and comfort the sick and the hurting world. They caught the world before it exploded in population and shaped it for better, educated and healed it. They paid for it dearly but accomplished the impossible. Few made it back to their home, many were killed, some died in sickness, and others decided not to return home for their work was too much and too important to leave it and head home. Jesus’ torch was too bright to quench it for personal ambitions. They took that light to many nations and areas of life.
Schools
The missionaries preached the good news of Jesus Christ and empowered us to live a victorious life over the vices in our life. Then they built schools wherever they went. Like Jesus, they taught about the kingdom of God and practical education that brightened up the future of the nations they went to. The Asian, African, South American and North American minds and hearts were enlightened through the word of God, schools and universities they built.
“In 2017, 7.3 million children were enrolled in Catholic preschools globally, 34.6 million children attended primary schools, and 20.3 million children attended secondary schools, for a total across the three levels of more than 62.2 million children. Overall, the Church managed 221,392 schools worldwide, including more than 100,000 primary schools, close to 50,000 secondary schools, and over 70,000 preschools”.
