The desire of all nations
The prophet Isaiah saw Jesus in a vision 700 years before Jesus came to this earth. When Isaiah saw Jesus and His glory, Isaiah’s instinct was to give it a run in the other direction. He said “Woe I am undone”. Isaiah must have felt like a teenager who had been caught by his parents walking on the living room white carpet after rolling in the mud.
“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory. And the posts of the door moved at the voice of him that cried, and the house was filled with smoke. Then said I, Woe is me! For I am undone; because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips: for mine eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts. Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar: And he laid it upon my mouth, and said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy sin purged.” Isaiah 6:1
The Jesus before and after His earthly life is so awesome and dreadful in appearance you can’t survive encountering Him in your body. He created the Sun, just to give you a perspective. The Sun is so awesome to look at if you come close. Its power can burn you to dust, if you fly too close to it so Jesus’s. However, when Jesus came to save us, He was born in a shed, on a wooden plank where the cattle just ate. As Jesus said it, He was “meek and lowly”.
Though he is revered in heaven, yet He chose a teenage girl who lived in a slum to be His mother. Yes, He believed in people. She could have raised Him in the wrong way, as she had no resources, knowledge, experience or affluence. There were well groomed princesses at that time. He could have chosen a daughter of the Roman emperor, or another royal household. It could have looked more legitimate and more fitting for people to believe in His origin. That kind of mother could have given Him the best chance in life and raised Him well. Since He came to be one of us, to understand our predicament, He took the lowest seat in society. Besides, a privileged upbringing would have blinded Him to our struggle.
